In 1997-1999 the Sydney Institute for Psychoanalysis presented a three year series of public lectures for candidates in training. The details of these lectures, together with an account of this experiment in training, can be found on the Institute’s website www.sydneypsychoanalysis.asn.au. The following lectures on the theories of Ronald Fairbairn, which were delivered by Maurice Whelan, have been selected for publication as an example of the series. These and all the other lectures are available on audiotape by application to the Institute.
These lectures were designed to meet the needs of candidates in training, and attempt to be comprehensive, scholarly and up-to-date. They were also were intended to be spoken, and these lectures on Fairbairn preserve some of the spontaneity and naturalness of the delivery.
